RockinSuckerfish - Suckerfish Web 2.0 Free WordPress Theme Released

March 14, 2007

RockinSuckerfish

RockinSuckerfish 1.0 is a single column theme with a twist. Instead of sidebars, information is stored in suckerfish dropdowns in the menu bar! This way, you get the full width of the body for your content and comments. Great for adsense due to the room available in the body of the theme!

Key Features:

  • Suckerfish Dropdowns instead of sidebars
  • Web 2.0 look
  • Wide body focuses attention on the blog content
  • Bold colors and outlines
  • PSD header file included for full header customization
  • Plenty of room for adsense blocks

I don’t see anywhere what license this is released under. Can you provide that info? GPL? CC? Thanks!

    Kurt,
The CSS, XHTML and design is released under GPL:
    http://www.opensource.org/licenses/gpl-license.php

It’s in the CSS in the Wordpress comment blurb.

I really LOVE the simplicity of this and the style is really nice. I wish I could use it but I cannot live without my sidebars.

  4. Nathan Rice on March 14th, 2007 1:01 pm

    Robin,

Keep your eyes open in the next few days to a week. There is a right-hand sidebar version coming :-) And it’ll be widgetized :-)

Great design Nathan. I’d prefer the R-H sidebar version with dropdowns. Looking forward to checking that one out.

One thing I don’t see though is a dropdown for links/blogroll. Can you add that?

Will the options for the theme include the ability to add a new dropdown menu item, as in I’m not smart enough to write the code myself? :)

    Best,
    Ross

  6. Nathan Rice on March 15th, 2007 12:03 pm

    Ross,

I’ll certainly add that in the next version (the 2 column version), and while I’m at it, I’ll add it to the single column version.

I don’t have any plans currently to add an options page to the theme. The nature of the suckerfish dropdowns (they’re very touchy) requires that you be very precise in the format you put them in.

If you would like a custom version of this theme (with just about anything you can think of in the dropdowns), be sure to get a quote from us for a custom modification. We’re running a special right now for modifications. Very cheap :-)

This is a great theme. I like how you have it set to have a drop-down menu on the top menu bar. That is something nor included in many wordpress themes, especially none as sleek.

  10. Nathan Rice on March 20th, 2007 5:31 am

    Thanks Matt!

That’s exactly why I did it. I hadn’t seen anyone do it so far, and figured there would be a market for it.

Love the rockinsuckerfish theme. Curious when that next version will be available? Are there any other good themes that have good 2nd level navigation (sub menus)

  12. Nathan Rice on March 23rd, 2007 12:59 pm

Next version should be out by Monday or Tuesday of next week.
To be honest, not many themes out there utilize the suckerfish dropdowns. That’s exactly why I did it, because there was a demand.

However, there will be at least a few more suckerfish-enabled themes from RockinThemes in the future. Just keep your eye peeled.

    Hi Nathan!

Love your design. I did notice a problem.
It only happens in the Explorer. When I click on search and move away from it the drop down lists show up under each link and stay there even if I move away from them with my cursor. Once this problem starts showing up it keeps showing up under normal usage. I included a picture of what I’m talking about from my joy of kidding website. Looking forward to a fix on this.

    Hi Nathan

Thanks for the template. It is excellent although I must admit that all I wanted was the php coding for the suckerfish drop down. Hence the next question! Do you know how I would get it to display all posts in a category please?

    Thanks

    Rich

  19. Richard Brown on April 11th, 2007 11:05 pm

    Hi Nathan

I have done what I wanted. The test site is at:
    http://test.uzellacourtantiques.co.uk/.
If you look across the top you will see the Cats in the suckerfish menu. You have to manually enter the cats name and then using a call to a plugin, put some additional php in the part. Now everytime I add a new page to that cat it gets listed! The plugin is at:
    http://watershedstudio.com/portfolio/software/wp-category-posts.html

Any idea how I might generate the cat names automatically please? I was wondering whether to try your cat dropdowns with the plugin above doing a third level. What do you think?

    Thanks.

    Rich

    Nathan,
Wondering if you’ve figured out a fix to that dropdown menu issue in IE, mentioned here in a comment on March 24th.

The menus often get stuck in the down position and I’d love to be able to fix that. This is a great theme.

    Ken

  22. Ken Luallen on June 4th, 2007 9:13 am

Adding the following code to my CSS took care of the IE7 sticky dropdown issue for me.

    ———–
    #nav li:hover, #nav li.hover {
    position: static;
    }
    ———–

  23. Luke on June 22nd, 2007 2:54 pm

I cannot get the theme to work in WP 2.2 The header basically disappears. Is Rockinsuckerfish1 1.0 compatible with WP 2.2?

Have you heard of this problem before? Any help ASAP would be greatly appreicated.

    Thanks!

  24. Luke on June 22nd, 2007 3:21 pm

One more problem (likely related). When I upload the theme to WP, the screen shot does not show up in the Presentations page. It lists it, but no screen shot.

Could this perhaps be an upload problem?

  25. Luke on June 22nd, 2007 10:26 pm

Never mind, I figured out my problem. Now if I can get the black boxes around the dropdowns to show back up I will be golden.
