Nice theme! I’ve been looking for something like this for the past week or so. I think I’m going to use it for an upcoming project.

Keep up the good work :)

Looks cool, though the particular shade of blue used in the background color of the links is different compared to the navy blue of the header. Feels a bit inconsistent to me. :) Other than that, I’d love to use this someday.

Have you any advice how one can do this ?

In Internet Explorer, the center column is falling down below the right column for single page views, though it is okay in index page. Can this be rectified? It is okay in Firefox though…..

Are you supposed to get any kind of help when you post here ?

  10. Cory Miller on March 4th, 2007 6:55 am

Billy, I’m working on a revision to the theme that allows easy change of this … right now, it’s just designed for easy text changes.

Tim, could you send me a link so I can see what’s happening? Also, what version of IE are you running?

  11. Nathan Rice on March 4th, 2007 11:55 am

    Cory and Tim,

I see the problem in the single post. It’s pretty serious, it seems the whole page gets screwed up, and that the center column falling down is just one of the symptoms. Seems fine in IE7, but it definitely breaks in IE6.
Tim, I’ll talk to Cory tomorrow and see if we can’t get that fixed. Check back here in the comments for an update announcement.

    Nathan

  12. Tim on March 4th, 2007 12:11 pm

Yes, Nathan… Thanks for elaborating the problem… I know many people(site visitors) are still using IE6…

    Thanks Cory!

For responding…. my site isn’t using the theme right now because of this problem… since I find that many visitors are viewing my site in IE6…

I hope you are figuring out how to fix the prob…

    Thanks again..

[…] I couldn’t sleep last night, so jumped out of bed and did a little fidgeting with one of my newer blog projects. While I liked the chosen theme, it just didn’t work for the kind of content I was posting. Therefore I visited the wordpress theme viewer. The trick was to find something that can hold a lot of content, but isn’t too flashy and overwhelming. I had the New York Times in mind.  There is a lot going on, but you can always find the main content and navigate around the various columns. Based on this criteria, my two front runners were Blue Zinfandel and RockinPaper. […]

Hey! I love this theme and had no trouble modifying the header image so I’m very happy with it. It looks great in Firefox. However, I’ve already gotten one report that someone is getting the same error mentioned above, except it’s the index page, not just the individual entry page. She’s using IE 7.

I got the same error when I tested in IE 6. I have two screenshots for you.

This is the top of my index page:

    http://andromeda.qc.ca/temp/screenshot1.jpg

The second screenshot shows that the actual content only shows up waaaay down my page, after the side bars are finished.

    http://andromeda.qc.ca/temp/screenshot2.jpg

Any ideas? I don’t need to wait for a fix or anything, if you can just tell me where to look in the css I’m able to change it myself in the meantime. I really love the theme and don’t want to stop using it, but I can’t leave it like this for long.

    Thanks for the great work!

  16. Cory Miller on March 7th, 2007 8:19 pm

Sherry, we’ve tested it extensively … and think the problem is your 500 pixel photos on the site … the column is only 442 pixels or so wide … try about 400 pixels photos and see if that helps.

I love your template. I would like to use it for my blog. But I am having a problem with the layout. My posts texts are showing below of the sidebars. Can you please explain to me what I can do in order to correct this problem? I am using your updated template.

    Monica,
Do me a favor and remove that spinning globe image. I want to see if that’s what’s making it break.

    Nathan
PS - It’s working fine in IE6 in my theme viewer

Makes me think it has something to do with that image making the center column too wide to fit between the left and right column

  22. Monica on March 8th, 2007 8:58 am

    Hello Nathan,

Until few minutes ago I had IE6. I just updated to IE7. Oh my! Where was I? Stupid me!

When I was viewing your theme with IE6 online, was also okay for me. But the problem was after I uploaded it to my server.

It is working fine now with IE7. I guess! I didn’t post yet.

Oh, about the globe image, I put it there just for fun. I will watch that for the future images.

Now, my question is… Any visitor who has IE6, visiting my blog, will they find the same problem that I was having before?

Another question… What is the difference from RockinBlue to RockinPaper. Both themes are very appealing to me.

I tried to download RockinBlue, and I got interrupted file message. Well this happened when I had IE6. Also FF did the same thing. I will try it again.

Thank you for all your help. Thanks to you I have a new nice looking browser… IE7!

    God bless you.

    Greetings -

I’m using this theme for a new project and found similar issues. After tweaking I’ve since tested in IE 5.5, IE 6, FF 1, FF 2, Opera 8 and Opera 9. All seem to be working fine. I made a number of tweaks to the style sheet to meet my needs - feel free to view if this works for you too. Also leave feedback if you find additional errors.

Does any know if it’s possible to install IE 7 on a machine that’s running IE 6 and have them both run fine independent of one another? I’ve had problems in the past with different versions of IE running on the same machine.

As I say, this is a brand new project and havent’t even populated yet. I hope to finish setting up this weekend.

Thanks for your work and offering such nice themes.

  24. nias on March 9th, 2007 6:09 pm

It would be apprecated if pages (not only posts) can be commented. I used to create my guest book using a page where visitors leave their comments on the “Guet Book” page. This capability can be found for example in Andreas Viklund themes.

  25. Nathan Rice on March 10th, 2007 12:14 pm

Yes it’s possible to have multiple versions of IE installed on the same computer. I wrote a story on it over at my blog.

    Hi Nathan,

I am having the same issue as Tim and Monica, above, and I have checked my images ond objects; none are wider than 425 pixels, and yet my central content keeps dropping down in IE6.

In another, stranger twist, one of my three pages (”Comedy”) does NOT suffer from the dropping effect. Odd, eh?

  28. Chicago Typewriter on March 13th, 2007 8:48 pm

Never mind… I just made the images and embedded video smaller.

    Thanks for a great theme!

It took me a good long while to find a theme that fits my needs and I think this is the one. A problem I’m running into is categorizing links. Everything falls under “Blogroll”. Is editing the r or l sidebar.php the only way around this, i.e. replacing your “CM Network” with one of my own?

    Thanks!

  30. Cory Miller on March 20th, 2007 11:02 am

Opie, not sure what you’re asking about … but if you put links into the “blogroll” category in WP, they’re going to show up on the sidebar …

Delete my network stuff and put your links in the “r sidebar.php” file ….

  31. opie999 on March 20th, 2007 12:14 pm

Thanks for the quick response. I’ll try to explain. I’m pretty new to this all this blogging stuff so please bear with me.

Under , “Blogroll” and “Uncategorized” are the defaults. I’ve created several new categories under which I’d like to add links. I then go to Blogroll => Add Link. I fill out the fields and on the right side under “Categories”, is a list of all the available categories with a check box next to each one. The list contains “Blogroll” of course, as well as all my newly created categories. I check the appropriate category but when I view the site, all my links are listed under the default “Blogroll” category. None of the categories I created show up at all. Same thing happens with Blue Zinfandel Enhanced.

When I change themes to either xMark or TypoXP Reloaded, all my categories with their respective links appear exactly as I wish them to. Problem is, I don’t like those themes as much as RockinPaper 3Col.

To be honest with you, editing the sidebar.php to work around this is not all that terrible so far. It actually seems quicker than mucking around with the process I described above. It’s also giving me a good introduction to tweaking php code. :)

    Hope that makes sense.

  32. opie999 on March 20th, 2007 12:19 pm

    Crap. Edit to above.

Under Manage => Categories, “Blogroll” and “Uncategorized” are the defaults.

    Sorry. :(

On my laptop in IE6 my Energies of Creation blog has the center column content drop down below the sidebars, and also this very page on your site does it too. :-(
The center column does not drop down on my desktop computer in IE6. I love the theme and would appreciate knowing the solution to this.
    Thanks,
    Lexi

    Another IE issue…

I’ve modified the header to include an image in in the left of the header, to have a dark red background by changing the header background color(hex color code 8B0000), and changed it’s height.

The head displays properly in all of the following browsers:

    Windows: Firefox, Opera
Linux: Konqueror, Iceweasel (aka Firefox), Opera

BUT, in IE7 it the image is missing and the background is white.

I’m going to try resizing the image to fit in the orginal header height to see if that might correct the image absence but I have NO idea why the new background color I set won’t show and has defaulted to white instead…
Any ideas what the issue & solution might be because I’m a bit stumped?

I just created my first blog a month ago and after searching for a setup I like I went with this one. I like how it looks on firefox, and never even thought of how it looks on IE. A friend was checking out the site with IE and the text was big and wasn’t alligned at the top. I check with IE 6 and it doesn’t look right. I could update myself to ie 7 and not use it. But what of other visitors that don’t upgrade? I really want to keep using this theme. My site is linked to my posting name.

  42. Nathan Rice on April 9th, 2007 8:27 am

    Lexi,
I just looked at your page in IE6 and everything looks fine. Did you fix the problem?

    John,
Let us know how your edits went. From what I see, it all looks fine in IE.

    Monica,
sub-pages are a way to organize your pages. It really has little bearing to how they are displayed in the blog other than the page list. You can put drafts in them, but they can be published just like a regular page too.

    Chris,
It looks like somewhere you introduces a header tag and never closed it. I can’t troubleshoot your page, but that’s where I’d recommend you start looking. Also, in IE, your middle content is falling below the 2 sidebars. Your images are WAY to wide, which causes the layout to break. Shrink those images down and the middle column should jump back up to normal position.

    Nathan

  43. Chris on April 10th, 2007 9:13 am

    Nathan,

Thank you for the response. With that info I was able to reformat the larger pictures and I found a header on the right sidebar that wasn’t closed out. Looks like Firefox fixed it automatically bu not IE. Everything looks good on IE now as well and I will continue to use the theme. Thanks!

  44. Chris on April 10th, 2007 10:03 am

    Nathan,

One more quick question, if you have the time. I will be creating more Catagories for my site and I want to have them listed where the Pages are listed now and move the page links to the catagory links.

I looked at the code of the header and the left sidebar and tried some changes that didn’t quite work out and I have since changed them back. I plan on reading more into what the actual code means, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

  45. Gary Speer on May 4th, 2007 8:53 pm

Hi. I’m using this theme and using widgets. One of the right sidebar widgets is a Samsarin PHP widget to display a PHP script that rotates products with their images and descriptions.

My problem is that the product randomly displayed in the widget sometimes looks fine — but every now and then a page refresh will show the widget shifted way to the right, with copy almost running off the page.

This happens most in IE6, but also in Firefox and IE7.

I have tried making the images way smaller in pixels than the 195px sidebar, but the problem just continues to show up — but not everytime.

For awhile, I tried the widgets in the left sidebar, too, and the result was the same, only the right-shift of the widget caused the image and text to bleed into the center content column.

Any ideas? (I don’t know whether I am allowed to post my site URL here? I can PM or email you the URL if you’d like.)

    Thanks.

Love this theme! Thanks for providing it. I haven’t experienced any problems with IE but my problem is with Fiefox. In Firefox the home page displays fine but when you click to go to any of the internal pages the page will display showing only a “submit” box and the footer. Can anyone help me out here and explain why this is happening? I can’t seem to figure it out. The site is http://www.comicnews.info

Cory: I love your theme; it is nearly a perfect mix of style and usability. I’d like to add some conditional printing in the sidebar.php when single posts are displayed. However, the statement doesn’t seem to work. The code is below:

    Hi,

Great template! Very pro, looks great, just what I was looking =)

There is a problem with IE6 though, whenever the main content column (middle) is shorter than any of the 2 sidebars.
It can be seen because the “row” with links to pages (eg. Home About Contact Directions Help) on the bottom on the page is wrong. Height is too much, it’s even more obvious when hovering a link.

You can actually see this on your own tester: http://wpthemes.nathanrice.org/about/?preview_theme=RockinPaper%203Col

    Any chance of fixing this?
Thanks, and congrats again, great work.

    dear cory,
i’m using this great theme on my site: http://www.taransfreejazzhour.com/home

i have some customization questions if you could afford the time to answer them, or somebody else here:

1.how to prevent the image in a post running into the previous post (or the previous post running into the next post and occupying the space next to the image). if you go to the site and scroll down just a bit you’ll see what i mean.

2.how to make full posts appear (rather than the summary)when a category link is clicked.

    3. how to change the background color of the search box and the comment box.

    thanks for your help.
